We
gather at perhaps the last of the grand old rooms in town, be
regaled with the sometimes glories yet poignant history of what
eventually became the former "haunted" Zenith / dB -AND- see the
future of our craft with guests from: (our host) Columbia College's
Sound Engineering's multi-room facility, Student AES Chapter,
Music Industry Workshop and DePaul U's Sound Recording Technology
Programs (founded by our ole'buddy Murray Allen). So IF.... you've
been wishin' you had a motivated, trusted assistant (like WE all
shoulda been once) here's your chance to see where they're comin'
from. IF.... you're lookin' over shoulder, check 'em out. IF....
you love seein' more up and comers who've committed to our craft
OR just wanna find someone new to use and abuse - here dey is
! You can even point and laff at Mary & I 'cause that's where
we got hitched and where we been hidin' the esteemed Malcolm Chisolm
! We'll start in Control Room "B", Lower Level, 676 N. La salle
@ Huron - 2 streets south of Chicago Ave. Most area meters are
only 'till 9pm or for a few bucks a lot is just 500 feet west
on Huron and Wells. CTA: Chicago at Wells ["Brownie" line], Subway
at State St. and Cabs everywhere 'cause it's River North, Baby!
312-482-9068 but jeez, it's in the same building as last year's
Grammy view -fest at the Blue Frog. We can stumble down there
after 10 pm and/or search for the "Sonic Bistro" new digs! Heck,
even Manny Melendez's (i.e. his United Airlines spot w/ Gershwin's
Rap-city in Blue) Comtracks Studio is in this music biz-ey building
but I didn't ask 'em yet so dummy up!
Appreciation
File: Thanx to "sensitive" Harry Brotman for single-handedly
settin' us up at "The Bird's Nest" with the Grammies on big screen
and amazing "Bistro-sound". (OK, K.D. -I'm behavin'!) Also to
our good friends at AES-Chicago for their invitation to join them
at the new Goodman Theater for a way-cool look at modern Theater
S.R. and an informative explanation of applied, functional acoustical
design, cues -communication and monitoring that was very relevant
to Studio, Control Room and Venue construction!
