LOCATION:
Hey Hey!
It ain't sexy like a matched pair of Eastern European large diaphragms, but
just like a tree falling in a forest with no one there to hear it, if they
arent wired up, snaked, and patched, no amount of gain from your boutique
preamps is going to make a bit of difference...

Appreciation File/Recap:
First of all: A special thanks to Gary Khan, current Chair of the Chicago
chapter of the AES for putting this month's meeting together. This pretty
much concludes his (current) reign as the local Chair for AES, during which
he extended many invitations for EARS to join in on great AES meetings. AES
is a different organization but of course we often share a lot of common
interests and it's been great to do some meetings together. I hope we'll be
able to continue this in the future when appropriate.
Second: A big EARS cheer to Michael Coyle and CRC 55 for last months meeting.
Not only did he host a great meeting, he committed to it only a week before the
meeting when another plan fell through. It was a fascinating night with Michael
sharing his own personal journey through the audio biz which fairly early led
him into post-production. He told many stories about how the business has
evolved over the years, shared a laundry list of "confessions" (all the little
things you sometimes just have to do to keep the clients happy at high hourly
rates), and generally impressed all who attended with his high energy, deep
love of the craft, amazing flexibility and versatility, and a comprehensive
capability in all that he does. Post is definitely another world, but it still
comes down to very fast yet consistently clear audio, making the client happy,
and knowing your stuff. Michael also runs a small but cool organization called
ProTools Chicago that meets once
a month.
Next Month:
Here we are again with August bearing down on us (it already feels like its
here) and that means the traditional EARS BBQ is coming! Who wants to host the
annual EARS BBQ? Let me know at
