Appreciation File/Recap:
A huge thanks goes out to all at Gepco including Scott Fehl, Joe Zajac, Dave
Chapa, Marty Gasienica and Chris Lordots. We had a great time and felt like
kids in a candy store getting a the behind-the-scenes look at the intricate
process of creating interconnects. Thanks also goes out to AES Chicago and
all of its outgoing and incoming officers. Lets also not forget to again
thank everyone at Gepco for the delicious spread of food they provided us all.
All in all, a fun and informative night.
Gepco was founded 25 years ago when a client needed cable and there was none
available to its specifications. Following that clients use and endorsement,
Gepco was founded and took off. When their primary competition left Chicago,
they bought up its location at Bryn Mawr and Ravenswood, where they still own
the property to this day. However, theyve been at the location we visited in
Des Plaines where they do all of their manufacturing since 1998. There are 50
employees at that location and the company employs 200 people in all. There
is another location in Burbank where stocking and sales are handled. The
military and broadcast companies are their number one and number two customers,
respectively. Gepco is a prime example of what has become your rare
all-American company that does not have any overseas operations. They are able
to stay one hundred percent domestic because theyre a niche company that does
less but does it better.
