Announcing New Officers, New Directions:
Yours truly, Kerry J Haps was pretty much unanimously elected (although, of course, running unopposed). I'm excited to announce that Michael Kolar has graciously agreed to be my trusty V.P. Chris Cwiak is staying on to do his usual fine work as Secretary. Treasurer and Editor will be determined and announced very soon. Dave Jeziorski is still serving as our Publisher, however that role may no longer be as necessary in this digital age so we may give him a much deserved break.
I have a lot of hopes for the coming year. We're going to give the EARdrum a good kick in the pants. (Ideas are welcome!) We're going to revamp the website. (Ideas are welcome!) We're going to have some great meetings. (Ideas are welcome!) We're going to foster a new more interactive spirit that'll look a lot more like YOUR EARS, and a lot less like someone else's. Our organization was founded on some very basic, very practical, and very good ideas and we're going to focus on those ideas.
"A monthly social get-together where competitors could meet in an atmosphere of fun and friendship, to talk about gear, business, and music. Everyone is encouraged to attend the meetings with an inquisitive attitude and a thirst for adventure in audio!"
Of course, while that was long ago, it's still a great recipe and there's still hunger for it. In addition to that initial vision for EARS, in this new and virtual world, I also hope to more seriously and effectively utilize the potential of online community aspects for EARS.
I'm committed to this. I'm committed to do all I can, with not just a carefully selected group of official volunteers, but with everyone's help and input, to make this organization great again. Great things are in the works. I've been gearing up for some time. I hope you'll help me to not let you down. :)
Appreciation File:
Sincere thanks to Mary, Mark, Danny, Chris, Gary, Dave... and all who served us so well this past year.
Special thanks to Mary Mazurek-Khan for her years of service as Editor, President, and then as my Co-Pres this past year.
Special thanks to Gary Khan for his years of service in many capacities, including President, Editor, Publisher, and who even remembers what all else. :)
Special thanks to all those who hosted meetings in the past year including most recently:
Michael Kolar of Soundscape and Bill Ovca (Biz Wiz Extraordinaire) for their presentation on the business side of our business. It was a great presentation that left all in awe of Bill's command of the ins and outs of this topic and all agreed that we'd love to do it again and dive into even more of these issues. (We gotta pay the bills!)
And of course thanks to those who have sent in their dues.
Congrats!:
Congratulations to our own Hudson Fair for his double Grammy nomination:
Best Classical Album: Lieberson: "Rilke Songs"
Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, mezzo soprano; Peter Serkin, piano
Best Classical Vocal Performance: same as above
He produced and engineered this fine recording.
If you have any ideas for the EARdrum, our website, or future meetings, please contact Kerry at archmart@comcast.net.
