(Band load-in and preliminary setup begins at 5:30p.m.
...All are invited to show up early)

EARS is excited to present a fun and interactive hands-on workshop at one of the finest live venues in Chicago, THE MAYNE STAGE. On Tuesday evening, we will explore some of the finer aspects of tuning a room for live sound, speaker arrays, amplifier networks, creating an exciting balance, setting up monitor mixes, etc...

We will experience the inner workings of making a live recording starting with a lively and informative discussion followed by actual live recording featuring our friends, Chicago rock combo RAZORHOUSE.

Our presenters are each masters of the craft in their own right... We are very pleased and honored to invite EARS own Danny Leake and Timothy Powell to lead the evening's discussion.

Danny Leake Danny Leake of Urban Guerrilla Engineers is a multiple Grammy nominated master studio engineer of 30 years with 20 years experience as FOH live sound engineer. He is currently Stevie Wonder's exclusive FOH mixer and recently worked the boards for Stevie at "Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee Concert" in London. Other credits include Stevie Wonder's “Natural Wonder” World Tour with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Dennis DeYoung and the "Music of Styx" with 50 Piece Orchestra, the Bobby Brown “Humping Around the World" tour, the Diana Ross World Tour, New Edition and many others. He’s worked most of the major venues of the world throughout Europe, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Republic of China, Israel, and United Arab Emirates. We here at EARS feel that Danny just may be WAY OVERQUALIFIED to be our presenter but we're going to give him a shot at it anyway and we are incredibly honored nonetheless.

Timothy Powell With numerous Gold and Platinum records and 31 Grammy Nominations, live recording engineer Timothy Powell of Metro Mobile Recording has recorded pretty much everyone from A to Z including Radio Head, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Los Lobos, KISS, The Rolling Stones, Phish, and Pete Townshend to name a few. He has recorded scores of live concerts for Chicago radio station WXRT as well as ABC, NPR, WLUP, WFMT, WLS, and the King Biscuit Flower Hour. With two remote trucks, three flight case rigs, and a crack team of engineers (including EARS own Mike Konopka), Tim has traversed most of the lower 48 states and even way out at sea on the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage Cruise Ship (as if live recording alone isn't enough of a challenge). Again, Tim is probably WAY OVERQUALIFIED for this presenting job, but we just couldn't come up with anyone more knowledgeable on the subject of live recording and so we are very honored to have him.

This is an interactive workshop designed for YOU...engineers, producers, students, and music industry personnel... to learn and experiment so we encourage everyone to roll up your sleeves and get yur hair mussed...come on down and set up some mics, plug in some cables, bang some faders, and blow up some monitors... uh, wait...never mind that last bit.

The workshop will officially begin at 7p.m. with a brief cocktail half-hour and the presentation starting at 7:30p.m. but for those who would like to be involved from the beginning, we'll start loading in the band at 5:30p.m. and doing some preliminary setup. We invite you to show up early and get in on the fun. Students and enthusiasts in particular will benefit and we encourage you to show up early.

This is a cash bar event, but light food fare will be provided courtesy of EARS and The Mayne Stage. The kitchen will be open as well so you can buy your own meal off the regular menu before, during, or after the event in the adjoining Act One Pub.
